Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The first Modern Warfare game opens with you, John "Soap" MacTavish, training for the British S.A.S. in Credinhill, Hereford. During this first mission/tutorial, you meet the series' other main character- Captain John Price. After this short mission, Soap, Price, and other soldiers attempt to locate a nuclear device on a Russian cargo ship. Meanwhile, a Middle-Eastern seperatist named Khaled Al-Asad takes over an unnamed country by executing President Al-Fulani on TV. Seeing this, America invades the country in hopes of finding Al-Asad. They are too late, however. Soon later, a nuclear device is suspected of being in Washington D.C. A team is sent to find the bomb, but it detonates. Al-Asad is tracked to a safe house in Azerbaijan, where he is captured and interrogated. It is here where Captain Price discovers that Ultranationalist Imran Zakhaev has been supporting Al-Asad all along, including the coup d'etat. Captain Price remembers a mission he completed 15 years earlier in an attempt to kill Zakhaev in Pripyat. Cue flash-back. Now, he (that is, you) and his old mentor, Captain MacMillan sneak their way to an abandoned hotel, and Captain Price takes the shot, blowing off Zakhaev's left arm, but not killing him. Trying to escape, MacMillan is injured, but Price carries him to an exfil point, at which point the game returns to present day. In order to locate Zakhaev, they try to capture his son to gain information. Instead, he commits suicide, which Zakhaev uses as an excuse to launch ICBMs towards the eastern US. He succeeds in launching, but the squad remote detonates the missiles over the Atlantic Ocean. They try to escape in trucks with Zakhaev's men right behind them. However, a bridge is destroyed by a helicopter, incapacitating most of the squad. They are informed that support is coming, but Zakhaev and two guards are already in the process of executing the wounded members of the squad. As Loyalist helicopters arrive, Zakhaev and his guards try to shoot them down. Captain Price slides an M1911 .45 pistol to Soap, who kills Zakhaev along with his guards. Loyalist planes bring the remaining members of the squad to safety.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
The Ultranationalists have gained control of Russia, declaring Zakhaev a martyr. Meanwhile, another threat, Vladimir Makarov, begins a series of terrorist attacks on the West. Joseph Allen and his squad take control of a city in Afghanistan, which leads to Allen becoming a member of Task Force 141, a counter-terrorist unit led by General Shepherd, including Gary "Roach" Sanderson and Soap MacTavish. These two members infiltrate a Russian airbase and capture an ACS module. Joseph Allen is then sent on an undercover mission in Russia under the name Alexei Borodin in the infamous "No Russian" mission. He joins Makarov in a massacre of civilians at Zakhaev International Airport, hoping to gain his trust. At the end of the massacre, it is revealed that Makarov was aware that Allen was a spy, and kills him, leaving his body at the airport to lead Russians to believe the attack was American, and in turn, spark a war. Outraged at America, Russia invades the US. A Ranger squad led by Sgt. Foley defends a Virginian suburb from Russian soldiers. They then head to Washington D.C. to aid American soldiers in defending the capital. Simultaneously, Task Force 141 looks for evidence to prove Makarov guilty of the terrorist attack. They are led to weapons dealer Alejandro Rojas, who tells them of a certain "prisoner #627" held in a Russian gulag. The Task Force assaults the gulag and frees 627, who turns out to be Captain Price. He decides to help them track down Makarov. In order to gain an advantage in D.C., Price and 141 detonate a missile in the atmosphere to create an EMP, which will incapacitate all Russian air support. Meanwhile, Sgt. Foley's Ranger squad tries to find a way from the capital and avoid the falling helicopters, as a result of the EMP. They receive a signal stating that D.C. will be bombed in order to prevent Russia from gaining control. To abort the airstrike, the squad fights their way to the roof of the White House and sets off green flares to stop the bombing. Task Force 141 tracks down to one of two locations; an Afghan airplane graveyard, which Soap and Price assault, and a safehouse on the border between Georgia and Russia. Roach and his team attack the safehouse, gaining Makarov's "playbook" from a computer. They escape to an extraction point, where Shepherd betrays them and executes them. Learning of Shepherd's betrayal, Soap and Price escape the graveyard, where a battle between Shepherd and Makarov's men is taking place. Price contacts Makarov and obtains the location of Shepherd's base. After assaulting the base, a boat chase takes place. Shepherd tries to escape on a helicopter, but Price shoots it down, while Soap and Price's boat goes over a waterfall. After the fall, Soap attempts to find and kill Shepherd. Shepherd nearly kills Soap by stabbing him in the chest, but Price tackles him, and a fistfight ensues. When it seems like Shepherd has won the fight, Soap pulls the knife out of his chest and throws it at Shepherd, stabbing him in the eye and killing him. Nikolai brings in a helicopter to extract them, and tells them he knows a place where he can give Soap medical attention.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Shortly after killing General Shepherd, Nikolai takes Price and Soap to a safehouse in India. Medics attempt to heal Soap while Makarov's forces storm the safehouse to kill the trio. Nikolai's best soldier, Yuri, kick-starts Soap's heart by giving him an adrenaline shot. They then try to find an extraction point to leave the country. They find out that they are the only remaining members of Task Force 141. Meanwhile, it seems World War III has kicked into full gear. A new squad, Delta Force Metal, holds off the Russian invasion of Manhattan by destroying a jamming tower in the Stock Exchange and using a Russian submarine against its own fleet. Russian President Boris Vorchevsky announces his plans to make peace with the US in Hamburg. However, Makarov and his men hijack the plane en route, kidnapping the President and planning to capture his daughter, Alena, who he plans to torture in order to obtain the Russian nuclear launch codes. Soap, Yuri, and Price, with help from MacMillan, follow Makarov to an arms deal in Sierra Leone. They fail at stopping the cargo from being distributed to Paris, Berlin, and London. An SAS unit is sent to stop this cargo, but finds a decoy, while the real cargo, a biochemical weapon, is detonated in London. These chemical attacks cripple the British defenses, making a Russian invasion easier. Team Metal is sent to recover the US Vice President. After this, they are sent to Paris to track down a bomb-maker, Volk. They fight their way to an exfil point with support from an AC-130 gunship. A bombing run meant to eliminate Russian forces topples the Eiffel Tower. Task Force 141 locates Makarov at The Hotel Lustig, where a meeting will soon take place. They meet up with Kamarov, a Loyalist and leader of the resistance. Price and Kamarov attempt to infiltrate the hotel with Soap and Yuri providing support, but Kamarov is taken hostage and stuck with explosives. Price escapes the hotel just before the explosion, and Makarov calls Yuri a friend, revealing they had known each other. Makarov knew Yuri and Soap would choose the overwatch position, and it explodes as well. They avoid the explosion by jumping to the ground, but Soap's injury reopens and he is wounded. After escaping to a safehouse, Soap tells Price about Yuri and Makarov's relationship in his dying moments. An outraged Price demands Yuri to explain how he knows Makarov at gunpoint. Yuri was an Ultranationalist and Makarov's right hand man. He was with Makarov and Zakhaev at several key times, including Price's assassination attempt with MacMillan, Makarov's detonation of the nuke, and the airport massacre, which he unsuccessfully tried to stop. Price decides to trust Yuri. Team Metal attempts to avert an Ultranationalist kidnapping of Alena Vorshevsky, which fails. Team Metal and 141 launch a joint mission to rescue Vorshevsky and his daughter from Makarov's men. While 141 escapes on a helicopter, Grinch, Sandman, and Truck, members of Metal, stay behind to cover the helicopter and are killed, but the President and his daughter are safe, ending the war. Three months later, Price and Yuri track Makarov to the Hotel Oasis. They assault the hotel in EOD armor. On the roof, Makarov tries to escape on a helicopter, but Price jumps on board, killing the pilot and co-pilot, and landing the helicopter on the roof. As Makarov is about to kill Price, Yuri distracts him and is killed, giving Price a chance to strike. He ties a metal cable around Makarov's neck and punches through the glass floor, hanging Makarov and killing him. The game ends with Price pulling out and lighting a cigar.
